Hey Lister, my name is Matt and I am going to be your LHSA President for the 2017-18 academic year! I was born and raised in Calgary, and decided to come to school here to study Biological Sciences. I am entering my 3rd year of my program and, like most science students, I hope to work in medicine or biomedical research.
Moving away from my family in Calgary was very hard for me, as they had always been such a strong network of support in my life previously, so my first few months in Lister were quite subpar, since I was shy, and intimidated by the community. Opening up to the Lister community was possibly one of the best things I have done for myself, as it really allowed me to become part of a strong community on campus! Making friends in Lister is a boring memory, but probably the memory that sticks out to me the most, since I've met so many great people here!
Some small bits about myself include:
1) My favourite colour is blue, even though 99% of the time my outfit consists of black shoes, black pants, a black hoodie, a black hat, while drinking black coffee
2) I enjoy small, frequent coffee/brunch dates with my friends, but mostly with my girlfriend.
3) R&B and Hip Hop are the 2 most superior genres of music (that's less of a fact about me, and more a fact about the world)
4) I like picking up weights and putting them back down
5) Breakfast Burrito, add salsa and tomatoes is my go-to Mar order
Don't hesitate to give me a friendly smile or wave if you see me!
VP HENDAY | Kevin Roszell
After 2 years of glory living in Henday Hall, first on 5 Henday and then on 9 Henday, I was elected to be the Vice President of Henday Hall for the Lister Hall Students Association. I am stoked to be representing all of you and look forward to running all of the events the Henday Hall Council has in-store for you.
Hailing from St. Albert, Alberta, while taking an Accounting degree with a Finance minor. I will be enjoying my third year in Lister. Despite being so old by modern Lister standards, I can still recall what it was like to move away from home to live on a floor with 40 new faces. Know that I am always around if you need someone to talk to or just hang out with. I can be found frequenting the David Tuckey gym where all of the dodgeball takes place, the Marina where you can buy chicken tendy wraps and in the lounges throughout Henday. Don’t hesitate to start up a conversation, I like meeting people and hearing their stories.
I have been fortunate enough to have gotten a chance to play in front of two amazing Henday Crowds during the annual Allstar tournament and as such I have developed a passion like no other for the game of dodgeball. All of my friends at home think of it the same way many of you may be thinking of it right now, but I can assure you that if you give it a chance and some effort you will love it like so many residents of lister have the past 15 years.
Above all else my job is to ensure that you as residents of Henday are appropriately represented here at the University and that everyone enjoys their time living in Henday and Lister for years to come. If I could only leave you with one thing, it is this: (BOLD)Skulk is coming(IN BOLD).
VP KELSEY | Janelle Owens
hey ya’ll, my name is Janelle Owens and I will be your VP Kelsey this year. I’m from Olds Alta. but currently live in Whitecourt Alberta, where my family moved after high school graduation. I am beginning my third year in the faculty of education, in pursuit of a bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I have made amazing friendships and memories here in lister with my first year on 8K and my second year on Main K. It’s because of these experiences that I was inspired to come back to Lister to make Kelsey home for my third consecutive year, this time in a brand new position. It’s through the LHSA that I plan to help build those same memories for you residents that made my experience so amazing and continues to excite me to see what this year will bring. If you want to know a little bit about me, I love mangoes and hate long walks on the beach. My favorite form of entertainment is memes and I love showing off photos of my dog (daisy, she is a sweet angel, please ask me about her). If this all appeals to you feel free to contact me for a late night trip to the mar and a walk to the tuckey to watch some dodgeball (but not too late because I am practically ancient in Lister years). I can’t wait to meet you all and start this year together, feel free to stop and introduce yourself if you see me and good luck in your start here!
VP MACKENZIE | Katelyn Ritchie
Hello! For those who don’t know who I am, I’m Katelyn Ritchie and I will be VP Mac for the year 2017-2018!
I am the oldest child in my family, giving me a very default authority over my two younger sisters Jessica and Shelby. I come from the great big beautiful city south of Edmonton known as Calgary! Unfortunately I wanted this wonderful thing called independence so that’s how I ended up in Lister; as an added bonus attending one of the best Universities in the country! I am taking a double major in Chemistry and Mathematics which sounds really intense, but I'd rather talk in numbers than letters!
If you had asked me after first year if I was planning on staying in Lister for three years in a row, I would have said HELL NO. My first year was a disaster… long story short I ended up as an RA in Mackenzie because I wanted to make someone else’s experience better than my own. My best-friend (Alex) was my co-RA and we got to contribute to the community you are about to become apart of!
I hate to admit….but I really do love playing dodgeball! I play left side shagger! A couple other important notes about myself: my favourite food is tacos, I have the biggest sweet tooth out of anyone I know, my favourite movie is Good Will Hunting, and I would take a day sitting in the sun reading over almost anything!
VP SCHAFFER | Samantha Cupit
Your new VP Schaffer! *drumroll*
VP ACADEMIC & HUMAN RESOURCES | Kenneth Zimmer
Develops academic programming in addition to hiring, overseeing personnel records and responding to complaints.
I was raised in Frankfurt and moved to Alberta three years ago. Now I'm in my 4th year of Honors Economics. One of my favorite Lister memories is my floor in first year, I had a blast and learned so much. I'm stoked for this year to start so I can get to know even more amazing people!
VP FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION | Scott Hubele
Oversees all accounts and monies in addition to preparing and managing LHSA budgets and overseeing all expenditures.
Heeyyy I'm Scott and I played the french horn in junior high. I was really bad at it, but I was the only one who volunteered to do it, so my music teacher loved me. I'm not gonna lie, I don't even know why I played it. I didn't like the sound of it (nor did my family), it was way harder to carry home than like a flute or something, and the french horn my school gave me was the saddest thing I'd ever seen. Like seriously, it was so close to being broken it wasn't even funny. Overall a ridiculous experience.
Okay sorry I spent way too long on that, the rest of this bio is about me, I promise. I'm from Calgary, I came to the U of A to study engineering, and I'm super happy to come back to Lister for my third year because y'all are my family and I love you all tbh. Sappy but tru. In my first year I always used to stay up till like 3 AM in the lounge talking to my friends and it was legit the best. I love friends, so feel free to say hi if you see me walkin around. The key to my heart is popcorn shrimp so keep that in mind I guess.
See ya 'round! Pea sand gloves!
VP WELLNESS | Nicole Inglis
Develops stress relief and wellness-related programming in addition to advocating on wellness-related issues.
Hi everyone! My name is Nicole Inglis and I'm from Calgary, Alberta. I am currently in my third year of honours nursing which allows me to further explore mental health in the community, which makes sense because my passion is mental health and awareness around the issue. I have so many amazing lister memeories so picking one would be hard, but if I had to, it would be playing as a double doctor during retroweek and failing miserably but having such an amazing time playing dodgeball after not participating in my first year. I am so excitied for this year for many reasons, but especially to meet the new lister community and make it as mentally and physically healthy as possible! If you were to ask anyone about me, you'd probably hear about my love for sloths, serious hatred for pineapple on pizza, and struggle to get up at 4:30am for clinical. Lastly, my ideal date would have to be the one and only dukes in a specific booth (it has to be the right one). I have so much more to say about myself but I would love to get to know you all better, so don't hesitate to say hi!
VP PUBLIC RELATIONS | Abigail Bridarolli
Promotes residence life, organizes external volunteer opportunities, and oversees LHSA publications.
VP OPERATIONS | Tyler Ma
Oversees all physical assets and office spaces in addition to assisting with administration of finances and maintenance of LHSA records.
Hey everyone! My name is Tyler Ma and I’m looking forward to being your VP of Operations for the 2017-2018 Lister Term. I was born in Kunming China, but grew up in Calgary for almost all my life. Currently I am a second-year engineering student specializing in mining engineering. After living my first year in Deadmonton, I’ve realized it isn’t really that bad compared to Calgary, just got to take advantage of Whyte Ave and Jasper Ave! Real talk though, your time in Lister this year will bring you unforgettable memories and life long friendships. My most memorable memories last year would probably be the times where we scrambled to the mar at 11:45pm before they closed to grab a late-night snack to fuel last minute panic cramming sessions. That and when you get sucked into late night talks in the lounge with your friends.
I’m especially excited for this year as the LHSA is returning. On top of that I’m excited to be part of the team that will reform the LHSA to greater heights, as well as help restore old Lister tower events back. Also, very excited to get back into dodgeball again, the Lister Dodgeball League is always something to look forward to as there is just so much satisfaction in throwing some dodgeballs. Some random facts about me, I’m a foodie who likes to take photos as well. Even though Edmonton doesn’t have the best food, we do have some variety! If you are ever out late, there is a place called Steel Wheels a block off Whyte Ave, they have quality Korean food and they are open till 3am. I highly recommend this place for late night food adventures.
VP INTERNAL | Sarmandeep Bhullar
Develops social, recreational, and educational programming and events.
Hey! I’m Sarman and I’ll be the VP Internal for the year 17-18. Hopefully I’ll be able to last the entire year too. I like to think I’m great at programming because if I wasn’t, I’d probably be horrible at my job. I’m from India and I’ve been moving around cities my entire life. As this is my 3rd year in Lister, Lister has become one of the places that I’ve lived in for the longest time in my life. Lister is home for me. I was an original resident of Henday and I spent my second year as an RA in Kelsey. It was as an RA that I found my love for programming and a deep sense of belonging to this community. In an attempt to programme for the entire year and not work checkpoint shifts, I ended up running for the position of VP Internal and by the grace of the residents of Lister, I won. Cut to a couple months after, I’m writing this bio with a loss for words and one piece of advice: get a chicken tendy wrap from the mar…They’re lit!
